NAMI-MC is a dedicated, all volunteer organization whose purpose is to foster hope and respect for individuals with brain illnesses and their families through advocacy, education and support. We also focus on educating the public to eliminate the stigma and misinformation surrounding brain illnesses and to encourage community involvement.

NAMI-Moore County Meeting Information
Meetings are normally held the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at FirstHealth Outpatient Specialty Clinic. The meetings usually last approximately 2 hours. ALL MEETINGS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
These meetings offer an educational segment at the beginning of the evening with a support meeting offered after the scheduled program. All meetings are open to members, participants receiving mental health services, family members, and the general public. All meetings are free and no reservation is required.
The next scheduled meeting is Monday, February 1, 2010. Look for notices of programs and dates that are published in advance in The Pilot and The Seven Lakes Times. Please call 295-1053 for additional information.
** The FirstHealth Specialty Clinic is located on the corners of Memorial and Page Drives, Pinehurst. The Specialty Clinic is what was once the old Surgical Clinic.

*** Please note that our March and April meetings will be held at the First Health Conference Center, Room B, on the corner of HWY 211 and Page Street, Pinehurst. This change of locations is only for our March and April meetings - after which we will return to the Community Room at the Specialty Center in May 2010.

On Monday, 1 March at 7 p.m., Kelly Frye, with First Health Outpatient Behavioral Services for over 20 years, will be the guest presenter. Frye will give her presentation on “Managing the Stress that Drains and Binds You”. If you are ever tired mentally and physically even though you are not working, this session will give you the opportunity to interactively explore your stress responses and sources. Create your own “toolbox” of skills for handling stress and to feel better.

"Double Tragedy: with Kristin Parks of Disability Rights NC on pending legislation protecting people with a severe mental disability from the death penalty. A Gallup Poll taken in 2002 showed that 75% of Americans oppose the death penalty for people with a severe mental illnes. Parks will discuss proposed NC legislation and how we can impact legislators' decisions. A brief Annual Business Meeting to adopt the 2010 Budget and to Elect Officers and Board Members will be held following Ms Parks' presentation. ALL NAMI-MC MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.
